You Can’t Out Train a Bad Diet
You Can’t Out Train a Bad Diet
As a Personal Trainer, I have client’s with differing goals but the most common goal in males and females are to loose weight but we can’t just exercise for weight loss.
The populations bellies are growing alarmingly fast. In 2015, 58% of women and 68% of men were overweight or obese (30th March 2017, UK Governement ). If you read the report that I have linked to, you will see some pretty shocking statistics.
Now, statistics show that we as a nation are not exercising, or moving enough and we are eating the wrong foods and the wrong amounts of foods.
Can I just Exercise more but eat the same?
According to a study by Bangor University, 15th November 2017, Exercise alone will not help us loose the extra pounds we carry. The study is based on women but I’m guessing that males and females will be similar.
The study which was carried out on lean and obese females suggests that when we exercise our bodies reach out to replenish our energy stores after exercise. With increased physical activity, our appetite increases. It shows that your eating habits will have to improve. If you have bad eating habits, after exercise you will eat the wrong foods, cancelling out the hard work you have just put in at the gym.
Changing your dietary habits will ensure that you will eat a good healthy feast after exercise so that your muscles will grow and you will not just pile on more fat.
So is Exercise Bad?
No, exercise is very good but to exercise for weight loss while keeping the same disastrous diet is not going to help you loose weight.
Exercise is great for our muscle mass and to keep our hearts in peak condition. Exercise will help to keep our metabolism firing which will aid in some weight loss, but we need to exercise and eat a healthy diet to get to our ideal weight.
It’s Not all About the Weight Though
What you do need to bear in mind is that as you exercise and eat well, it may be better to measure fat loss and muscle gain rather than weight loss. As we know, muscle weighs more than fat, so as you exercise, your weight may stay the same or reduce slower than expected. If weight loss is your focus then you may be massively disappointed when jumping on the scales.
