Get Up for Brain Power
You may well think that getting up and moving around will be good for…
- Losing Weight
- Getting Strong
- Healthy Heart
You are correct if you thought this but have you ever considered that getting that arse off the chair is good for your brain power?
A Study by University of California – Los Angeles, shows that too much sitting, like smoking, increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and premature death. Researchers found sedentary behaviour is linked to thinning in regions of the brain that are critical to memory formation. Read the findings.
This study does not prove that too much sitting causes thinner brain structures, but instead that more hours spent sitting are associated with thinner regions, researchers said.
This thinning of the Medial temporal lobe, can be a precursor to cognitive decline and dementia in middle-aged and older adults.
So the message is, getting up off your couch and get moving around more often should improve brain health in people at risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
I have always said that my mind or brain is the most important thing for me. If I have strong brain power then I am able to deal with any other problems or lack in my life. Whether it is a physical disability or life challenges, with a strong mind, I can work around the problems.
For me, the reason to work out for brain power out ways muscle strength, bone density and fat loss.
Let’s do ourselves a huge favour today and get up, go for a walk, a run if your able and make this a habit.
Remember those other benefits that you may have listed earlier. Find your purpose for exercise and stick at it.
